Motherwell vs. Rangers

Motherwell are going to be really fired up for this game and with Rangers on outstanding goal scoring form at the moment, i expect them to get right in about the ibrox men and make this a real battle.

Barry Ferguson could start for Rangers with Thomson being out till the end of the season. The Rangers captain is fit to start his season after missing the opening 4 months and we know he what he brings to the side, great passing, a goal scoring option and most importanty the grit and determination which is needed at grounds like Motherwell and Aberdeen.

Motherwell fans love this fixture and make sure their players give everything. They are a young side who are not scared to get stuck into Rangers or Celtic and we seen that when the sides met at ibrox. I thought Motherwell were very lucky not to have at least a couple of players red carded as it was obvious from the kick off that they targetted Mendes and done everything to stop him getting on the ball.

Its going to be a very interesting battle between Porter/Sutton and that Rangers back 4. With no Clarkston, who is suspended, id expect Motherwell to play a more back to front game and that would make for a very physical battle with the Rangers defence.

In midfield Mendes is sure to face the same attention and it will probably be the same for Ferguson. If Motherwell can stop these 2 they know they can cut the supply to Boyd, who is on fire. Lasley and Fitzpatrick will the men expected to keep them quiet.

Boyd cant stop scoring, so id expect him to be closely marked my Malcolm, the ex Rangers defender. He didnt hold back on his old club when the sides met at ibrox and its obvious he is desperate to prove Rangers made a mistake letting him go.

There are so many battles in this game and players on both sides who do get involved. Add a fantastic atmosphere as its one of the biggest spl games of the season and a Motherwell manager who demands everything from his side when the old firm are in town and this should get a bit naughty.

The ref is steve conroy, who is quite inexperienced but even so i do believe he is one of the top 4 in our league at the moment.
