St Helens v Wakefield

The Wildcats were excellent last week against champions Leeds and i think they can follow that up by giving this seasons top super league side, Saints, another tough game tonight.

Saints got the win at Warrington last week and showed why they have been the best side in super league for the last few years. There was a point when it looked as though they had blown it but young Eastmond dug his side out of a hole and showed why Potter is not to fussed about losing Sean Long at the end of this season. It is quite amazing the amount of young lads who slot into that side as though they have been there for ages and that says a lot for the coaching at all levels of the club.

Only 1 loss in the last 8 for Saints and that came at Salford when they were missing a number of their big starts. Still a few injuries at the moment, possibly even Eastmond could miss this game which would obviously be a plus. But Gidley and Cunningham come back in and we know they are 2 quality players with bags of experience.

Wakefield were so unlucky last week and should have taken the points against Leeds. Brough was superb, as was little Obst and Ferguson had a great game on the right hand edge. I think its fair to say that Wakefield on their day can trouble any side and in Atkins they have as good a centre as any side. I was most impressed with Korkidas, the work he got through in defence and the amount of carries was amazing. We will need a similar performance tonight as Saints are very strong in the forwards.

The Wildcats, despite 2 decent performances, have lost their last couple and there is now a question marks over their chances of taking a play off place. It does not getting any tougher than a trip to play St Helens.

Even so i think Wakefield will keep this one close. Obviously the coach has to get the heads up after such a disappointing finish to the Leeds game but we know Kear is a fantastic motivator.

There has been a lot of rain today, something Saints do not enjoy playing in, wet conditions. Every time we seen them drop points or perform to an average standard its when the weather is not great.

Depsite a super win at in form Warrington, St Helens did lose a few very soft trys and their line was broken easily a number of times. Wakefield certainly have the quality to take advantage.

Im expecting another big game from Korkidas but more importantly Brough must perform as his kicking game will be vital. I think we will see another brave performance and quite a close game.

Wakefield+17.5 to beat Saints at evens.
