Both players have genuine chance in their first round match today as there is nothing much to differentiate two players who can be said to be poor in 2009 thus far. Especially Kirilenko, who has failed to live  to her expectation and being a russian herself, she knows she has a long way to catch up with players such as Shaapova, Safina, Kusnteova. Her ranking of 59 tells the whole story and her record of 8-13 this year is just very bad for her. Another statistic shows that Kirlenko has exited in 5 of her last 6 tournaments in her opening round, meaning that she has not find any momentum entering this grand slam and followed by her woeful history at Wimbledon, whereby she has only made it past the first round in 1 of her 7 attempts.

Her opponent Kvitova too has not been that great but I that she will have enough quality to edge out her opponent today. Kvitova is 11-10 in 2009 but the difference between her and Kirilenko is that almost all of her losses have been against top 20 players. This means that she can handle players around her capability. Kvitova will be hoping to improve on her short lived showing in Wimbledon in 2008, go for the Czech girl to win this match and probably it might end up with three long sets.
