Dinara Safina looks primed to capture her maiden grand slam title today with she taking on her countryman and world number seven Kusnetsova. Safina is a far cry from previous world number ones in the women game as she has stamped her authority on the tour in the last six months or so, unlike previous players such as Sharapova and Ivanovic. Her upper body strength can be considered as one of the best on the tour and I think Kusntesova will be in for a hard time today.

Kusnetsova though did beat several quality players on her way to the finals, such as the likes of former world number one Serena Williams and the powerful hitting Samantha Stosur in the semifinals. Although she won both of those crucial matches, the time taken on court must be starting to take a toll on her with matches lasting all the way. The only chance Kusnetsova can hope to claim the title is only if Safina really had one of her off days but I cannot really see that happening. Go for the world number one, Safina to collect her first grand slam title and what makes it more sweet for her is that it will be against her fellow countryman.
