Varvara Lepchencko has taken part in many tournaments and the fast and rising Uzbekistan, American-based woman is slowly improving her wta world rankings. Last week, her run in Madrid lasted all they way until she was eventually beaten by the prowess of Wozniacki. All in all though, her last few tournaments have yield good results for her and she is definitely on the right track for this weeks event. As for Pauline, the french girl has been abysmal of late, having not played well in the entire of 2009 and her last victory was all the way back to February 28.

Pauline has lost a string of successive matches but 5/6 of her losses have been three setters which might suggests that she might be a tad unlucky through that barren spell. Although Lepchenko trail Pauline in the actual standings, I think she will be the favourite between the two as her game is more or less suits the clay.
