Newcastle v Middlesbourgh

Northeast derbies dont come any bigger than this one. Both teams are locked on 31 points, along with West Brom who got that vital win at the weekend, at the bottom of the table. I think its fair to say, looking at the tough fixtures both have coming up that either side losing this match tonight will be almost certainly be relegated.

Bringing in Shearer was an odd move for me. It got the fans right behind the team, true, but he has no experience and really what difference has he made. The Toon did get a point in both games with Portsmouth and Stoke but really at this stage they are of no use. Shearer had to win one of those games and although they did make some chances against Pompey, it was a pretty dire 0-0.

Boro are not on much better form right enough but their last defeats came in games where you expect very little, Man Utd and Arsenal. We did see a good performance 3 weeks back against Hull and they will believe that Stuart Downing can produce the goods again and lead his side to a vital win.

I dont think this will be pretty, i expect plenty of cards, but when you see 2 sides at the bottom of the table playing what is always a firey derby match then you have to be delighted to be betting on both a draw and one side to win at almost even money. Boro are the side who can score goals and to be honest i think Newcastle have too many players who are past it and bascially dont care enough about that club.
