Vietnam are now the head on favourites to lift the South East Asia trophy for the under 23 team. They completely destroyed Singapore u23 team by an impressive score of 4-1 while Malaysia did beat Laos 3-1.The Malaysians are just an average side in the tournament and if Singapore had played them in the semi finals, I am sure the Lions would progress. Moreover, Malaysia may have won four of their five matches in this tournament to date, but their other blemish was also to the same opponent by a score of 3-1.

The strength of the Vietnamese team can be highlighted by the fact that they have scored eighteen goals from five matches and what makes them menacing up front is that their front line is quick and challenging to handle. They looked very dangerous on the break against Singapore and there is no way that the Malaysians can handle such immense pressure. With powerhouses such as Singapore and Thailand choosing not to field full strength teams in this minor tournament, the onus is on Vietnam to capitalise on their chances and claim their maiden SEA trophy.
