Chelsea welcome Wigan at Stamford Bridge in the hope of another win that would bring them yet again to only a 3 point difference between them and Manchester United.
Most expect a easy win for Chelsea tonight.I can't say that i agree with that.In fact i don't even care that much whether they are going to win or not, because i decided to take a bet on the under/over market as i see good value in the odds offered for my pick.I went with the under 2.75 goals market.
I decided to take such a pick after judging the way the two teams have played in their last matches, and also the statistics that are in our favor. To make things more clear, let's take a look at the statistics. Both teams have played 33 matches this season. Here they are parted in under and over matches(for under/over 2.5 goals and not 2.75).Left are unders and right are overs.
| Wigan | 11 | 22 |
| Chelsea | 10 |
23 |
Both these teams have a clear record of an under 2.5 goals team.It is no surprise if we look at the way Chelsea plays. They manage to score the first goal after which they kind of go back and defend, and are happy with any counter attack opportunities as they have players with good speed, as Drogba or Joe Cole, or S.W. Philips when he is introduced. Most of the cases when Chelsea's matches were over, were the matches in which they did manage to open the score, but due to the fact that they received some goals, they had to go in the search of some new goal to put them back in advantage.
Now, the way i see it, Wigan is a good team but i don't see them scoring any goals today. They will have to come up with something really special to break the Chelsea defense that is compact with players like Terry and Alex.
In the last two Premier League matches, Chelsea has managed to score early goals. In the 5th minute against Boro, but that was the only goal of the match.Of course it was a miracle that Chelsea did not concede any goals as Boro had some incredible scoring opportunities. But what is important here is that Chelsea is a team that does not go for more goals as long as they got a lead. The same thing happened with Man. City.Chelsea got the lead in the 6th minute thanks to an own goal. After which they scored another goal in the 53rd minute and that was all.So, another under.
On the other side Wigan know they can't expect much from this match. In fact even if they leave London empty handed they still are 5 points clear of the relegation zone.I see Wigan trying to get a 0-0 draw here, as they did a few rounds ago against Arsenal. They might just make it or they might just not make it.From Wigan's last 10 matches only one was over 2.5 goal.I see no reason why this one will not be the same.
I've place my bet with Pinnacle. They offer a 1.83 odd which i consider quite generous and there is plenty of value there (even if there are 3 goals we still receive half of our stake back). But my stake will be a small one, as i don't consider this pick as a solid one, because you just can't know when Chelsea might just go and score 4 or more goals, or even some lucky goals from Wigan.
So, under 2.75 goals with small stake.
